Technical Assistance Manager – Access to Energy (A2E)

40 hours per week, preferably based in Nairobi, Kenya

Job Description

The Energy Entrepreneurs Growth Fund (EEGF) is a fund managed by Triple Jump (TJ) and anchored by the Shell Foundation and FMO, with the target fund size of USD 120 million. It aims to support early- to mid-stage companies in the off-grid energy sector in Sub Saharan Africa. The nascent stage of the Access to Energy (A2E) sector in general, and the early stage nature of the EEGF investees more specifically, require an approach that pairs investments to active hands-on support and capacity development. To achieve this, Triple Jump has designed the EEGF Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) based on its extensive experience in combining financial and non-financial support, delivering value-add technical assistance, and developing eco-systems.

As Technical Assistance (TA) Manager you will be responsible for developing and managing the EEGF TA facility in close coordination with the EEGF investment team and partners. More specifically you will be responsible for:

  • Acquisition of clients for the EEGF TAF – clients may be companies invested in by the EEGF or companies that are potential pipeline for investment. You will serve as sparring partner for EEGF investment team and portfolio companies;
  • Identifying and developing value adding TA projects, sourcing third party service providers, and quality control;
  • Developing and sourcing projects that contribute to building the broader A2E ecosystem in close collaboration with partners;
  • Developing and maintaining a network of local and international implementing partners, building up and harvesting expertise, and sharing that through events and other channels;
  • Developing and implementing the TAF manual and procedures, guide internal decision making, managing administration and external reporting;
  • Actively raising additional funding for the EEGF TAF to enable the scaling of the services.

You will report to the Director Market Development of Triple Jump. 


Job Requirements

  • At least 7 years of relevant working experience in program management, consulting and TA in the field of entrepreneurship/private sector development in emerging markets;
  • Deep knowledge of building early stage companies, preferably in the access to energy and/or adjacent sector (financial inclusion) in emerging economies;
  • Good international network of relevant stakeholders (consultants, policy makers, companies, development finance institutions);
  • MBA or Master degree preferably in Business, Finance or Economics;
  • Fluent in English and preferably a working knowledge of French and/or a local African language;
  • Good consulting and program management skills;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Networking, negotiation and acquisition skills.
