Investment Manager PE, Access to Energy Africa
36-40 hours per week, duty station Nairobi, Kenya
Triple Jump is an impact-focused investment manager that manages and advises several funds in the area of financial inclusion, SME finance, affordable housing, renewable energy and agri. Triple Jump offers professional asset management services to investors, ranging from advisory to portfolio and risk management and fund administration. Triple Jump holds an AIFMD license and is regulated by the Dutch Central Bank and the Authority Financial Markets. Our investor base includes institutional investors, development banks, governments, NGOs, and retail banks, all of whom seek to combine both financial returns with social/environmental impact.
Job description
As a Investment Manager, you will be responsible for the full investment cycle of debt and equity investments into companies active in the off-grid energy sector in Sub-Saharan Africa, covering sub-sectors such as SHS, C&I, green mini-grids and productive use of energy.
You will be part of the senior team in Triple Jump’s regional office in Nairobi and will co-lead one of the two off-grid energy mandates managed by Triple Jump.
The position requires frequent travel to countries across Africa to represent the mandate, conduct due diligence, and monitor investees.
Triple Jump currently manages two mandates in the off-grid energy space, with total AuM of approximately USD 215 million. Both mandates provide catalytic financing through equity, debt and mezzanine instruments to early- and growth-stage companies operating in the access-to-energy space in Sub-Saharan Africa.

This position requires a solid experience and track record of direct investments in the offgrid energy sector in Africa. Background in the direct investment space and managerial experience within operational companies of a combined minimum 8 years is required. Moreover, you have experience analyzing business plans and financial statements, developing deal structures and monitoring investments, ideally with exit experience.
You have demonstrable communication skills and are able to disseminate knowledge and mediate between different views. Your negotiation skills are excellent and you are capable of representing the fund we manage. You feel comfortable working in a team spread across the globe, while independently developing new and managing existing markets.
Specific desired competencies
Must-have: Solid experience and track record of direct investments in the offgrid energy space in Sub-Saharan Africa (in sub sectors like C&I, SHS, mini grids or related industries) with some investments in early-stage / early growth companies as a prerequisite;
Strong stakeholder management and project management skills;
Monitoring lead (board or board observer) experience;
Demonstrated deal structuring- and restructuring experience;
Ability to understand and handle complex topics rapidly;
Next to verbal communication, proficiency in written business English is required;
Knowledge of French is considered a plus;
Existing working permit considered a plus;
